Nova Levante is a picturesque place in the middle of the mysterious mountains which have been mentioned in many tales and legends.
Lake Carezza is said to have been home to a mermaid. An evil sorcerer who lived locally fell in love with her. In order to lure her out of her hiding, he created a wonderfully colorful rainbow which rose high above the lake. The mermaid was curious and walked to the shore to admire this stunning spectacle, but soon she noticed the sorcerer and dove back into the water. This enraged the sorcerer so much that he made the rainbow break into thousands of pieces which all fell into the lake. Legend has it that this is how the many extraordinary colors of
Lake Carezza came about. This is only one of the many legends that have prevailed in the Dolomites.
The rocky, mountainous area has always inspired the locals to tell stories and fairytales, such as the one about the dolls of Latemar or King Laurin and the rose garden which only flourishes at dawn. Come to visit us and you will hear them all.
